The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

I am thrilled to announce that I have joined the cast of “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, written by Jethro Compton and directed by Thomas Gordon. I will be playing Hallie Jackson, a rough-around-the-edges saloon owner from Texas who meets the mysterious stranger, Ransome Foster, when he stumbles into town.

This play is based on the short story of the same name, written by Dorothy M. Johnson in 1953. This will be my first time performing a western on stage!

“The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” will be running June 26 - July 26 at the Gene Frankel Theatre in Noho, produced by the Onomatopoeia Theatre Company. Click the link below for ticket information!

Blake is simply magnificent, portraying a woman whose very survival hinges upon the preservation of dignity amidst dust and danger.
— Edward A Kliszus, OpeningNight
Blake’s Hallie emerges not just as a romantic foil but as a woman caught between survival and sorrow.
— Deirdre Donovan, OffOffOnline
Inevitably, Valance and his gang inflict an outrage that leaves Hallie (Mari Blake) grief-stricken—it’s a harrowing moment that nearly eclipses the final showdown between Foster and Valance.
— Deirdre Donovan, OffOffOnline
The other three cast members give powerfully focused performances, with Blake’s embodiment of Hallie being the strongest. She is entirely believable as a frontier woman surviving in what is a rough and tumble man’s world; tough when needed, sensitive and understanding at other times, and always in control of her emotions.
— Scotty Bennett, TheatreScene
Blake’s Hallie is tough, grounded, and believably torn between independence and new promise.
— Gregory Flectcher, Stage and Cinema
